Review by Eloísa Valdes

Johnny Hodges And His Orchestra's album, The Blues, is a timeless masterpiece that captures the essence of traditional blues music. The album's 12 tracks are a perfect blend of Hodges' soulful saxophone and the band's impeccable instrumentation.

From the first track "Blues-A-Plenty," the listener is transported to a smoky jazz club where Hodges' saxophone takes center stage. The album continues with classics like "Stompy Jones" and "Jeep's Blues," which showcase Hodges' mastery of the blues genre.

The album also features collaborations with other jazz legends such as Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Their influence is evident in tracks like "The Jeep is Jumpin'" and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be."

About Johnny Hodges And His Orchestra

After 23 years with Duke Ellington's Orchestra, saxophonist Johnny Cornelius Hodges started his own band in March 1951. The band lasted until September 1955, when Johnny Hodges returned to his place as leader of the Duke's reed section and participated in one of the many revivals of the history of the best big bands in the history of jazz.
