The Juliana Theory - Understand This Is A Dream

Review by Keith McMean

Understand This Is A Dream by Juliana Theory is a masterpiece that showcases the band's incredible talent and creativity. The album is a seamless blend of rock, emo, and pop-punk, with each track showcasing a different side of the band's sound.

From the soaring anthems of "August in Bethany" and "To the Tune of 5,000 Screaming Children" to the introspective ballads of "The Closest Thing" and "Do You Believe Me?", Understand This Is A Dream is a tour de force of emotional depth and musical innovation.

The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument and vocal track perfectly balanced to create a rich, textured sound. The lyrics are equally impressive, with frontman Brett Detar's introspective musings on love, loss, and the human condition resonating deeply with listeners.

USA's The Juliana Theory released four albums before disbanding and reforming in 2020: 1999's Understand This Is a Dream is a clone of Husker Du, Bad Religion and Jawbreaker.
