Italian-born, British actress, TV presenter and panelist, narrator, agony aunt, and was briefly a model. Born in Italy to an Anglo-Italian coupling, she moved to London in 1946. Starting as a model she quickly moved into acting and appeared in many films and TV series over the 1950s and 1960s. During her career she also presented the Eurovision Song Contest 4 times (1960, 1963, 1968, and 1974), and was an agony aunt for the TV Times.
She was born 'Caterina Irene Elena Maria Imperiali di Francavilla', daughter of an Italian marquis. On marrying Richard Bentinck Boyle, she became Katie Boyle (Katie having already been arrived at from her first name, and Boyle from her husband, the 9th Earl of Shannon). On separating from her first husband she opted to continue to use the Boyle surname, and has also been credited as Catherine Boyle, or even Catherine Boyl. Other names under which she was credited at one time or another, are: Catherine Carleton, Catherine Carlton, Viscountess Boyle, and Catherine Greville-Baylis. At her death she was commonly known as Katie Boyle, Lady Saunders, a title that she acquired when her 3rd husband, Peter Saunders, was made a knight in 1982.
Though her most productive years were between the 1950s to the 1970s, she continued to appear as herself, or in roles, well into her late-70s.
Born: 29th May 1926, in Florence, Tuscany, Italy.
