Review by Cuidados e Vaidades

The Krystals, the self-titled album by Krystals, is a masterpiece that showcases the band's exceptional musical talent. The album is a collection of eleven tracks that blend various genres, including pop, rock, and R&B, to create a unique and refreshing sound.

From the very first track, "Diamonds," the listener is taken on a journey of upbeat and catchy tunes that are accompanied by powerful vocals and dynamic instrumentals. The album's second track, "Shine," is a standout hit that features a blend of electro-pop sounds and soulful lyrics.

Krystals' ability to experiment with different sounds is evident in tracks like "All Night Long," which has a distinct disco vibe, and "Stay," which features a more laid-back R&B feel. The album's final track, "Forever," is a beautiful ballad that perfectly showcases the band's vocal range and emotional depth.

About The Krystals

The Krystals were a rock and roll band from the Labrador City/ Wabush area of Newfoundland and Labrador. They formed in November, 1966 by Maurice (Moe) Caines (a former singer/guitar player of the Keatniks), Stan Erbrink, together with Tommy Hynes and Cecil Luca. After a few lineup changes in the last two years of the existence of "The Krystals" the band consisted of Lloyd Thornhill (vocals, guitar), Roland (Rolly) Gaudet (drums), Ray March (keyboards) and Stan Erbrink (vocals, bass). This self-produced and financed album was was recorded at R.C.A. studios in Montreal in November 1970 in a quantity of 2000 and was released in January, 1971. With the exception of 'The Creepin' Fuzz', which was written by Thornhill, the album contains cover tunes such as Simon & Garfunkel, The Hollies, and Chicago. Stan notes, "The recording was done in a tiring continuous session of 18 hours; it was an arduous job and this possibly explains the slight lack of quality. The reason for making the record was that I wanted to leave a palpable reminder of 'The Krystals' to the people of Labrador City after five years of playing music there. In the beginning of October, 1971 I went to work in South Africa, and that was also the end of the band."
