Review by Pat McCraw

Little Walter's album "I Don't Play As Long As I Have You" is a masterpiece of blues music. The album features some of Little Walter's best work, showcasing his incredible talent as a harmonica player and singer. The album is a mix of slow blues and up-tempo tracks, all of which are expertly performed by Little Walter and his band.

The album's opening track, "I Don't Play As Long As I Have You," sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song is a slow blues number that features Little Walter's mournful harmonica playing and soulful vocals. The lyrics are heartfelt and emotional, and Little Walter delivers them with a raw intensity that is both powerful and moving.

Other standout tracks on the album include "I Got to Find My Baby," a fast-paced blues number that showcases Little Walter's incredible harmonica skills, and "It's Too Late Brother," a slow blues ballad that features some of Little Walter's best singing.

Blues harmonica player and composer. His innovation on the harmonica has had impact on succeeding generations. Born & raised in Louisiana, Little Walter had quit school by the age of 12, & was supporting himself with odd jobs & busking around southern cities in Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, & Missouri. Arriving in Chicago in 1945, he occasionally found work as a guitarist but garnered more attention for his already highly developed harmonica work. Jacobs, growing frustrated with having his harmonica drowned out by electric guitarists, competed with their volume by adopting the previously little-used method of amplification. However, he differed from his contemporaries by purposely pushing his amplifiers beyond their intended technical limitations, using the amplification to explore and develop radical new timbres and sonic effects previously unheard from a harmonica, or any other instrument. It has been said Little Walter was the first musician of any kind to purposely use electronic distortion. His first released recordings were in 1947. He then joined band playing mostly unamplified harmonica from 1948 to 1952, though hired Walter to play on most of Muddy's records throughout the 50's. In 1952 his instrumental hit "Juke" spent 8 weeks atop the Billboard R&B chart, the only harmonica instrumental #1 to date. Little Walter scored fourteen top-ten hits on the Billboard R&B charts between 1952 and 1958, including a second #1, "My Babe" in 1955, a level of commercial success never achieved by his former boss Waters. In the late 1950s, Jacob's fame and fortunes began to decline. He suffered from alcoholism and had a notoriously short temper. He died in his sleep at the apartment of a girlfriend at 209 E. 54th St. in Chicago early in the morning following a fight outside a club he was playing at in South Chicago. Described as "king of all post-war blues harpists

Walter had it all! He invented distorted amps BEFORE guitarists! His acoustic harp had phrasing and tone to die for. His songs are amongst the greatest blues tracks. His songs were sexier than the rest. MORE harp players try to copy or reference or are influenced by him than any other. My Jack Russell is named "little" Walter.......the vet nurses all giggle when they call "Walter" to the waiting room!!! Muddy was the king of the blues, not B.B. (sorry) and Walter was the "Black knight"!!! RIP Walt, you changed my life ( for the better!!!!)

DAMN,man listen to his phrasing.check out how he finds which end of the harp he's at.Just damn, nobody had his phrasing and tone, pure genius and feel.Damn.this whole album is great,Mellow Down Easy is another one that has just amazing harp technique. He was it,he was who everybody tried to be with the single note,Chicago sound.what starts at 1:11 is amazing. Its what probably got Paul Butterfield to develop the style he had
