Maxim Saury - Maxim Saury

Review by Kristina Robinson

Maxim Saury's self-titled album is a delightful collection of traditional jazz tunes that showcases the French clarinetist's virtuosic skills. The album features a wide range of jazz styles, from Dixieland to swing, and Saury's playing is consistently impressive throughout.

The album opens with the lively "Si tu vois ma mere," a classic tune made famous by Sidney Bechet. Saury's clarinet playing is nimble and expressive, and he is backed by a tight rhythm section that keeps the groove swinging.

Other standout tracks include "Dinah," which features a playful call-and-response between Saury's clarinet and the piano, and "Sweet Georgia Brown," which is given a lively Dixieland treatment that will have listeners tapping their toes.

Saury's playing is also showcased on slower, more introspective tracks like "Body and Soul" and "Sophisticated Lady," where his sensitive phrasing and emotional depth shine through.
