Micky Dolenz - Live At BB Kings

blueprintperformance

Review by Sekou Walton

Live at BB Kings by Micky Dolenz is an impressive album that showcases the artist's incredible talent as a musician and performer. The album features a mix of classic Monkees hits and other popular songs, all performed live in front of a lively audience at the famous New York City venue.

The album kicks off with the upbeat and catchy "Last Train to Clarksville", which sets the tone for the rest of the performance. From there, Dolenz takes the audience on a journey through some of his most iconic songs, including "I'm a Believer", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", and "Daydream Believer".

One of the standout tracks on the album is Dolenz's cover of The Beatles' "Oh! Darling", which he performs with incredible energy and emotion. His vocals are strong and powerful throughout the entire album, and he clearly knows how to engage and entertain a crowd.

Glam spoof, for sure, but Micky was definitely channeling a lot of Jagger here, as well.

If Micky Dolenz and Dr. Frankenfurter had a baby and taught them to walk like Mick Jagger, this is it. I love that he's experimenting with a new genre. I just wish that there was a photo of his face so I could see the make-up job in better detail. :)

The special is an embarrassing mess but this is pretty good. Come to think of it, 33 1/3 was also an embarrassing mess for different reasons. Good highlights in both however. Mike and Peter dodged a bullet here. The lack of chemistry between the 4 of these is bewildering.

For a great Cuddly Toy, see Davy in Japan.

For a great Steppin' Stone, always the 1967 live album.
