Miles Davis - The New Sounds

Review by Paul Ballardin

The New Sounds by Miles Davis is a jazz album that showcases the musician's versatility and experimentalism. The album, released in 1951, features Davis on trumpet alongside other jazz luminaries such as Sonny Rollins and Jackie McLean.

The album's opening track, "Conception," sets the tone with a cool and understated melody that gradually builds in intensity. The following track, "Dig," is a more upbeat and frenetic piece that showcases Davis's virtuosity on the trumpet.

Throughout the album, Davis and his fellow musicians explore a range of styles and moods, from the sultry ballad "My Old Flame" to the bebop-infused "It's Only a Paper Moon." The album's final track, "Denial," is a haunting and atmospheric piece that leaves a lasting impression.

It might be asking for too much but I'd really use a mp3 or flac delivery of this. This is a true rarity and I'm a collectioner myself so if you're able please release it on some ddl platform!

Miles was there and creating for every major post WW2 jazz period. This album is amazing in how modern it sounds. It sounds 10 years ahead of its time! But I love how tight it is too. That tightness is one of the pros of 1950's jazz. Looseness is more 1960's jazz. But they're like Yin and Yang in jazz. Both can be incorporated and used to generate amazing sound aka music.

Maybe not as subtle or intricate as something like 'KOB,' but I'm digging the energy and groove here. :-)
