Review by Joe Rayment

Nav Katze's album Oyzac is a mesmerizing journey through ethereal soundscapes and haunting melodies. The Japanese electronic duo, consisting of Naomi Higuchi and Junichi Takagi, have created a sonic world that is both otherworldly and intimate. The album is a seamless blend of ambient, techno, and trip-hop, with each track flowing into the next like a dream.

The opening track, "Happy?" sets the tone for the album with its hypnotic beat and Higuchi's ethereal vocals. The album then takes a darker turn with "Nobody Home" and "Wild Horse," which are both haunting and beautiful in their own way. The standout track on the album is "Never Not," which features a driving beat and a mesmerizing vocal performance from Higuchi.

Throughout the album, Nav Katze creates a sense of space and atmosphere that is truly captivating. The use of electronic instrumentation and Higuchi's vocals create a sense of intimacy that draws the listener in. The album is a perfect example of the power of electronic music to create emotional depth and complexity.

About Nav Katze

Nav Katze (meaning "Nervous Cat") are a female pop rock group from Tokyo, formed in 1984 by Shino Furutate, Miwako Yamaguchi, and Naoko Iimura. Furutate left the group not long after their major label debut in 1991. For their 1996 album, Gentle & Elegance, Iimura's role was greatly reduced while producer became a lead performer and songwriter (though he was never declared a member of the band). This would prove to be the group's last album of new material. Outside Japan, Nav Katze is primarily known for being remixed by European electronic artists. Their remix albums were distributed across Europe, and notably Aphex Twin included two Nav Katze remixes on his album . This recognition in "IDM" circles lead to the band abandoning their pop rock style in favor of an almost entirely electronic sound for their final album.
