Band Novi Fosili was formed in 1969. Their first discographic success happened in 1976, when Rajko Dujmić joined the band. That year they performed on most significant festival in Split, with song Diridonda, which was huge success all over the Yugoslavia. They became the most popular band from ex-Yugoslavia, and they won many awards for popularity. In this period they released 15 single and 6 LP releases, and some of songs became all-time hits (Da te ne volim, Reci mi tiho, Saša, Šuti moj dječače plavi, Sanja, Plava košulja...)
In 1983. Sanja Doležal replaces Đurica Barlović as lead vocalist. Band with new line-up released many LPs that were among best-selled releases amongst ex-Yugoslavian pop music.
In 1987. the band represented Yugoslavia on Eurovision contest with song Ja sam za ples, and they were fourth. Single was released in nine European countries.
In October 2001. they officially announced breaking up, after more than 30 years of playing. Since 2005. active again.
