Review by Justin Barber

Oh Hellos' album Dear Wormwood is a compelling and thought-provoking addition to their discography. The album is a concept album that tells the story of a protagonist and their journey through life, with each song representing a different chapter in the story.

The band's signature folk-rock sound is evident throughout the album, with soaring harmonies, intricate instrumentation, and powerful lyrics. The songs are emotive and introspective, exploring themes of love, loss, and redemption.

The standout tracks on the album include "Bitter Water", "Soldier, Poet, King", and "Dear Wormwood". These songs showcase the band's ability to craft intricate and dynamic arrangements that are both musically and lyrically compelling.

Where's the squad that actually likes the song and doesn't care about Teen Wolf?

Dreamy landscapes, fabulous storytelling lyrics and evocative vocals of the both siblings make this album a true late-night listening pleasure. One of my favourites.

Damn. This song really does hit even harder once you've read the novel. Honestly, so does most of the songs in the album.

The authors definitely intended this to be a CS Lewis reference, but I find it remarkable how many interpretations this song has for its listeners. It's not directly religious but holds meaning to those who fell away from the faith and came back. But it also holds meaning to people that aren't necessarily religious. Those that are affected by depression, abuse from parents or their supposed guardian figures, even those affected by the excesses of abusive religion.

Good songs are so well-marked by this universality of message without watering down how deeply personal it is to the authors (or to the listeners).

This song sounds exactly like realizing how toxic your parents are and how much they've ruined you as a person

When I was a child
I didn't hear a single word you said
The things I was afraid of
They were all confined beneath my bed
But the years have been long
And you have taught me well to hide away
The things that I believed in
You've taught me to call them all escapes
I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now
There before the threshold
I saw a brighter world beyond myself
And in my hour of weakness
You were there to see my courage fail
For the years have been long
And you have taught me well to sit and wait
Planning without acting
Steadily becoming what I hate
I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now
I have always known you
You have always been there in my mind
But now I understand you
And I will not be part of your designs
I know who I am now
And all that you've made of me
I know who you are now
And I name you my enemy
I know who I am now
I know who I want to be
I want to be more than
This devil inside of me
