Old Man's Child - In Defiance Of Existence

Old Man's Child's 2003 album, In Defiance Of Existence, is a true masterpiece of black metal. The band's founder, Galder, has created a truly epic and atmospheric work that showcases his incredible songwriting skills and musicianship.

The album opens with the haunting intro track, "Felonies of the Christian Art," which sets the mood for the rest of the album. From there, the listener is taken on a journey through some of the most intense and emotional black metal ever recorded.

Tracks like "God Of Impiety" and "Black Seeds On Virgin Soil" showcase the band's ability to create dark and sinister atmospheres, while tracks like "The Soul Receiver" and "The Spawn Of Lost Creation" show off Galder's incredible guitar skills.

The album also features some incredible guest performances, including Dimmu Borgir's Shagrath on "Demons Of The Thorncastle" and Satyricon's Satyr on "Life Deprived."

About Old Man's Child

A melodic black metal band from Jessheim/Oslo, Norway, founded in 1993. The foundation of the band was discovered in 1989 when Galder/Grusom (Thomas Rune Andersen Orre) and Tjodalv (Ian Kenneth Åkesson) founded a Metallica/Slayer cover band called Requiem. By 1993 they had become a death metal band and later that year changed their style to black metal and became Old Man's Child. Excluding the band's early years in the mid to late 1990's, Old Man's Child has been very much a solo project of Galder, who typically used the help of session musicians on albums and tours. Despite being more occupied as guitarist in Dimmu Borgir, Galder kept Old Man's Child alive until 2009, after which the band has not released new music.

In Defiance Of Existence is a must-have for any fan of black metal. Its incredible songwriting, musicianship, and atmosphere make it one of the best albums in the genre's history.

By the time of In Defiance of Existence, Old Man s' Child were literally unsure if to continue to be a Symphonic Black Metal, Thrash or Symphonic Death band: in other words, if they were going to embrace the newest Emperor, Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir trend around. The answer is this album, which sees the band trying to find a middle ground between the three acts, and the result is an album that borrows a bit from this, a bit from that and a bit from the other. It isn't distinctive, it's boring. And it doesn't definitely help to make a band as uninteresting and conventional as this better or more interesting than it actually is. Instead, the album comes out chaotic despite it hadn't been assembled like that. The songs go and float wherever they want, and nothing sticks after the end of the album. A bit more predictability and the album would have been an abomination.
