Review by Damien Ryan

The album All Mornin Long by Red Garland Quintet featuring John Coltrane and Donald Byrd is a must-have for jazz enthusiasts. The quintet showcases their exceptional talent in this album, which was recorded in 1957.

The album features six tracks, including the title track "All Mornin Long," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "Our Delight," "Blues by Five," "Airegin," and "Tin Tin Deo." Each track is well-crafted and showcases the unique style and improvisation of each musician.

John Coltrane's saxophone playing is exceptional, and his solos are a highlight of the album. Donald Byrd's trumpet playing is equally impressive, and his solos add depth and dimension to the tracks. Red Garland's piano playing is also noteworthy, and his solos are both intricate and melodic.

The album's sound quality is excellent, and the recording captures the energy and spontaneity of the live performance. The album's pacing is also well-done, with each track flowing seamlessly into the next.

What a great, soulful period in jazz this was! Post Bop - back to the roots - you wanted to dance when you heard things like this. And listen to Coltrane - what a sound - it cut right through to your soul!

Fantastic upload. Great great solos by Coltrane and Donald Byrd (who I believe was only 25 in 1957). I thought I had this but I don't - I've got the Prestige albums 'All Night Long' & 'All Day Long' (on a double CD) that were recorded in 1956 & early '57 and thus precedes this Red Garland 'All Morning Long' album. I never knew until now that George Joyner became Jamil Nasser - a great bass player. Thanks a million for the info & the great upload.

Surprised to not find this on YT. Some of my favorites all gathered jammin' together here. This was recorded the same day that this crew recorded Red Garland's Soul Junction.
