Der Wolkenstein, the collaborative album by Reinhard Lakomy and Monika Ehrhardt, is a mesmerizing journey through the mystical world of German folklore. The album takes its name from the medieval castle, Wolkenstein, located in the Erzgebirge Mountains in Saxony, Germany. The castle and its surrounding area served as the inspiration for the album's songs, which are sung in German.
The album opens with "Sag mir, wo die Blumen sind" (Tell Me Where the Flowers Are), a haunting ballad that sets the mood for the rest of the album. The songs that follow are a mixture of folk, rock, and classical music, all of which are beautifully arranged and performed by Lakomy and Ehrhardt. The album's standout tracks include "Die Sage vom Wolkenstein" (The Legend of Wolkenstein), "Der Ritter und die Rose" (The Knight and the Rose), and "Das Lied vom Schnee" (The Song of Snow).
Lakomy and Ehrhardt's vocals are a perfect match for the album's mystical theme, and their harmonies are nothing short of breathtaking. The instrumentation on the album is equally impressive, with Lakomy's piano and Ehrhardt's violin providing a rich, textured backdrop for the vocals.
