Review by Erik Kroll

The World I Used To Know is a poignant and introspective album by the legendary Rod McKuen. Released in 1969, this album is a reflection of the artist's personal experiences and observations.

The album features some of McKuen's most heartfelt and moving tracks, including "The World I Used To Know," "The Importance of the Rose," and "The Lovers." Each song is a testament to McKuen's poetic lyricism and his ability to capture the essence of human emotions.

The album's musical arrangements are equally impressive, with beautiful string arrangements and gentle acoustic guitar strumming providing a perfect backdrop for McKuen's vocals. The album also features collaborations with renowned musicians such as Tim Hardin and Phil Ochs.

Rod McKuen (born April 29, 1933, Oakland, California, USA - died January 29, 2015, Beverly Hills, California, USA) was an American singer / songwriter, composer, musician and poet (who also used the pseudonym Dor on three 1959 releases). Throughout his career, McKuen produced a wide range of recordings, which included popular music, spoken word poetry, film soundtracks and classical music. He earned two Academy Award nominations and one Pulitzer nomination for his music compositions. McKuen's translations and adaptations of the songs of Jacques Brel were instrumental in bringing the Belgian songwriter to prominence in the English-speaking world. McKuen's songs sold over 100 million recordings worldwide, and 60 million books of his poetry were sold as well. (He was one of the best-selling poets in the United States during the late 1960s.) His poetry deals with themes of love, the natural world and spirituality.

The 60's were such a great decade. Full of new music and experimentation, that still influences music of today in so many ways.

Such a great song.
So happy to hear this original version. So much more personal with the names he mentions in the song.

C'est plus proche de la version originale de Jacques Brel que la version de Terry Sacks
