Savage Republic - Siam

Review by Natasha Stephana Chammearc

Savage Republic's album Siam is a powerful and intense journey through the realms of experimental rock and post-punk. The band's unique blend of tribal rhythms, distorted guitar riffs, and haunting vocals creates an atmosphere of otherworldly mysticism and raw energy.

From the opening track "Siam" to the closing "The Ivory Coast," the album takes the listener on a sonic voyage through the desolate landscapes of the mind. The band's use of unconventional instruments such as the didgeridoo, African drums, and Middle Eastern strings adds to the album's exotic and hypnotic feel.

The standout track "Next to Nothing" showcases the band's ability to create a haunting and atmospheric sound that is both eerie and beautiful. The driving beat and distorted guitar riffs of "Ceremonial" create an intense and frenzied energy that is impossible to resist.

Hailing from the Los Angeles underground of the 1980s, Savage Republic forged an astonishing reputation for themselves with their legendary performances. Their brand of ritualistically tribal exhibitions blurred the boundaries of Post-Punk and Industrial music. Their music incorporates minimalist bass rumbles, exotic and/or militaristic drumming, Arabic melodies, primal chants and even a bit of surf guitar. Members through the years : Bruce Licher : guitar, bass, percussion, vocals Ethan Port : guitars, percussion, metal horn, voice Greg Grunke : guitar, bass, dulcimer, vocals Jackson Del Rey : vocals, guitar & percussion Jeff Long : vocals, bass & guitar Mark Erskine : drums, percussion, bongos, vocals Robert Loveless : keyboards, bass, mandolin, percussion Thom Fuhrmann : bass, trombone, keyboards, vocals
