Review by Feditalimprese Sicilia

Silly Wizard's album "So Many Partings" is an exceptional collection of traditional Scottish folk songs. The album features beautiful melodies, skillful musicianship, and heartfelt vocals that transport the listener to the rolling hills and misty glens of Scotland.

The band's instrumentation is nothing short of impressive, with intricate guitar work, fiddle, accordion, and bagpipes weaving together in perfect harmony. The album's standout tracks include "The Queen of Argyll," a lively tune that showcases the band's energy and musicianship, and "The Valley of Strathmore," a haunting ballad that highlights the band's emotional depth.

The album's title, "So Many Partings," is aptly chosen, as many of the songs deal with themes of love, loss, and separation. The lyrics are poignant and moving, and the band's delivery is heartfelt and sincere. The album is a testament to the enduring power of traditional folk music and a must-listen for lovers of the genre.

About Silly Wizard

A Scottish folk band, the Silly Wizard story started when Bob Thomas (guitar, mandolin) and Gordon Jones (guitar, vocals) met in Edinburgh in 1969. After a few early line-ups they become Silly Wizard in 1972, and shortly afterwords Johnny Cunningham (fiddle, mandolin) joins. At the end of 1974 Andy M. Stewart joins on vocals and tenor banjo, with Freeland Barbour (later of The Wallochmor Ceilidh Band) on accordion. In '76 Johnny's younger brother Phil takes over on accordion, and with Martin Hadden (bass, harmonium) the band enjoys a steady line-up (although Bob Thomas drops out at some point) and great success until his end on the half 80's.n

Just brings back so many happy (and sad) memories of nearly throwing caution to the wind and leaving all behind running away with a lovely Irish guy & then I thought of the heartbreak I'd leave behind and asked him to wait - never saw him again

@hoterebel thanks for leaving your impressions- charming. I'll translate for other readers: "This group came to sing in my village (pop.300) in 1979 or 1980 I think!!! And yeah, I was a kid but I have never forgotten it!! What a special experience for my first concert! I still have the record! The jacket and photo is the same (as the photo above): "So Many Partings" Very fun to listen to it again now.
