Debut albums tend to come in one of two settings. They tend to either tell the audio story of a band struggling to find their own voice and failing in the process. Or else, they let you hear of a band dead certain of their own talents and abilities, hitting you squarely between the ears with their own political agenda and tunes to match. From There is most definitely in this second camp. This sound owes a fair debt to early Pogues and Dexys Midnight Runners. These tracks fairly dance a live wire with tales of eighteenth century England and its criminal underclass. If there's fault to be found, it is that far too many of the tracks are far too fast. But then, you immediately hit the play button again and soon become enraptured by the haunting and melancholy spell ably woven by the album. That is, one of dark and dingy folk clubs and pub cellars that positively teem with life and stories.
