Review by Soumi Deb

Houston Home Cookin Album by Various is a stunning collection of songs that bring out the soulful essence of Houston. The album features a diverse range of artists, each bringing their unique style and flair to the table. The tracks are a perfect blend of blues, jazz, and gospel, creating a musical feast for the ears.

The album opens with the upbeat and foot-tapping "Houston," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The soulful and emotive vocals of "Mississippi" Charles Bevel on "Good Morning Blues" is a standout track that showcases the artist's exceptional talent. Other highlights on the album include the instrumental "Crawfishin'" by the Joe "Guitar" Hughes Band and the heartfelt "In the Morning" by the Silver Eagle Band.

I saw them open for U2 in 1981 when U2 was playing a small club in Houston. I came away remembering this song and it came to mind again recently, so I looked it up on YouTube. Sure enough...

I have not heard this song in many years.

One of Houston's two AOR stations in early 80's put this on an album. The station put the album together to showcase some of Houston's best unknown bands. This was the best sing on it. I think the album was titled Made In Texas.

I remember another song on it with lyrics of: Whip me beat call me Edna. Set my hair on fire you know I like that action. Make me look like Michael Jackson.

Would love to come across this album in a garage sale or own shop one day.

But this sing here brings back a flood of memories. Getting ready to hit the town with it on the radio. Then go to The Roxy &/or Cardi's with both of them on Westheimer. Great carefree times back then!!

Thank you for posting this!

The year was 1981. I was a junior in High School, M.B. Smiley to be exact. This song was played on 97 ROCK KSSR, Houston's rock station, rival to 101 KLOL. I thought the name of the band was "Ric Tangle and The Squares". Anyone remember this?

This song was the jam back in 1987.  I was dating girl from Mt. Carmel High School.  Her name was Desi Deville.  I sure miss that girl.  She was my 1st love.  I miss you Desi!  Love always, Dave

I remember hearing this as one of the finalists on Houston's homegrown rock on the Moby and Mathews show in the morning. This was my #1 favorite of all the songs. Haven't heard it since then, got it saved now, thanks for the post and God bless.
