Too bad country radio ignored this country gem. did not make the top 40 when it was released in April of 1993. Totally sounds like a #1 hit and one of Vern's best singles. Country radio already put Vern Gosdin's latest singles out to pasture by 1993. Would have surely gone the distance had it been released a few years earlier when The Voice was in his radio prime. 1988-1991. I bet if Tim McGraw recorded and released this song it would have gone #1 for him.

This definitely should've been a hit. It's such a great song, and it sounds like it would've been at home on country radio in 1993. I never understood why they quit playing Vern regularly in 1991 when his sound is not much different from what a lot the younger artists were doing at the time.

So far, I have not been able to listen to this song to its end. It hits me too hard
in a very harsh area of memory. When my only child, my beloved daughter, was
only 4 years old, it became necessary for me to leave her with her control-freak
mother. That the decision was necessary has never really been in doubt to me.
She is 34 now and doing well. But, the dark and permanent guilt that
follows me, never leaves me, even after her forgiveness. Someone may learn
from my experience, since I did NOT desert her.

My son, made me let my husband move back in with me one day after I left him. He was 11 and was afraid to leave daddy alone. We stayed married 44 1/2 yrs. The last 15 were ok. he died 9 years ago.
