Review by Stasha Pierpont

The album Works for Flute 2 by Beethoven, Kazunori Seo, Mitsuo Kodama, and Makoto Ueno is a delightful collection of classical flute music. The four musicians showcase their exceptional skills and artistry through their interpretations of Beethoven's Sonata in B-flat, Seo's Three Pieces for Flute and Piano, Kodama's Sonata for Flute and Piano, and Ueno's Five Pieces for Flute and Piano.

The album opens with Beethoven's Sonata in B-flat, which is a masterpiece of classical music. The flute playing by the ensemble is precise and expressive, with each note resonating beautifully. The second track, Three Pieces for Flute and Piano by Seo, is a modern composition that showcases the versatility of the flute. The interplay between the flute and piano is intricate, and the musicians execute it flawlessly.

The third track, Sonata for Flute and Piano by Kodama, is a delightful piece that balances lyrical passages with technical virtuosity. The flute playing is expressive and nuanced, and the piano accompaniment is equally impressive. The final track, Five Pieces for Flute and Piano by Ueno, is a collection of short pieces that are playful and melodic. The flute playing is lively and cheerful, and the piano accompaniment provides a wonderful counterpoint.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.
