About Dag Wirén, Bo Linde, Daniel Börtz

Swedish composer and music arranger, born October 18, 1905 in Striberg in Västmanland, died April 19, 1986 in Danderyd. He graduated from Karolinska University in Örebro in 1924. Between 1926 and 1931 he studied at the Conservatory of Music in Stockholm. From there he took an organ degree in 1929 and a degree in composition in 1931. The teacher of composition was Ernst Ellberg. After completing his studies in Sweden, he received a scholarship for further studies in Paris, where he stayed in the years 1931-1934 and studied composition and instrumentation. Leonid Sabaneyev was there his instrumentation teacher. In 1932, Örebro Concert Hall was inaugurated, and in connection with this, Wirén's Concert Overture No. 1, op. 2. The composer could follow the performance himself via radio link. After returning to Sweden, Wirén became involved in the management of Fylkingen. He was a librarian in the Swedish Composers' Association in the years 1933-38. In the same association he was vice chairman 1938-63. He was also a music critic in Svenska Morgonbladet 1938-1946 and a board member of STIM 1939-1968. He sat on the board of the Academy of Music 1948-1960. From 1964, Wirén received a newly established state artist award, which meant an annual income guarantee.
