Review by Shiva kumar

Jimmie Driftwood's album, John Paul Jones The Bear Flew Over The Ocean, is a delightful collection of folk songs that pays tribute to the legendary American naval commander, John Paul Jones. The album features Driftwood's signature storytelling style, accompanied by his acoustic guitar and banjo.

The album opens with the title track, "John Paul Jones The Bear Flew Over The Ocean," a lively tune that tells the story of Jones' naval victories during the American Revolution. The song is followed by "The Battle of New Orleans," a classic folk song that recounts the American victory over the British in 1815.

Throughout the album, Driftwood takes his listeners on a journey through American history, from the Civil War era in "The Rebel Soldier" to the Wild West in "The Streets of Laredo." His lyrics are full of vivid imagery and historical references, making the songs both educational and entertaining.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," a song that has become a beloved classic in American folk music. Driftwood's version is a faithful rendition of the original, complete with the iconic chorus that has been sung by generations of Americans.

The cool thing about this song is it holds many different meanings. How I see it, is a "post WWIII message to Russia". Like the "Bear" is the Soviets, flying over the ocean invading the US. And we kicked their ass, so the big bear can go back and tell the rest of Russia why we are free. Because we will fight to the very end to maintain our freedom as Americans
