Paul Brody's Sadawi - Kabbalah Dream

Review by Jeffrey L. Ogden

Kabbalah Dream, the latest album by Paul Brody's Sadawi, is a fascinating blend of Jewish mystical traditions and contemporary jazz. The album features Brody's virtuosic trumpet playing and compositions, as well as the talents of his bandmates: Michael Rodach on guitar, Michael Griener on drums, and Ben Davis on cello.

The album opens with "Kabbalah Dream," a haunting and meditative piece that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Brody's trumpet weaves in and out of the other instruments, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. "Kabbalah Blues" is another standout track, featuring a driving rhythm and Brody's bluesy trumpet lines.

Throughout the album, Brody and his bandmates explore the themes of Jewish mysticism, with titles like "Sephirot Dance" and "Merkaba." The music is both rooted in tradition and forward-thinking, blending elements of jazz, klezmer, and world music.
