About Sister Mattie Moss Clark And The South Michigan State Community Choir
American gospel choir director, March 26, 1925 - September 22, 1994, the mother of and sister of . A pivotal figure in the rise of the gospel mass choir movement, Clark was a richly gifted vocalizer, musician, arranger, songwriter, director and music minister. Clarks tenacious quest for perfection enabled her to teach her newest compositions to hundreds of choristers in a short period of time. By 1968, Clark was director of the International Music Department for the COGIC denomination. During her more than 25-year tenure, Clark was the longest serving international music minister and formed the International Mass Choir, which sang at the annual United National Auxiliary Convention (UNAC), and A Star is Born, a showcase for emerging musical talent within the denomination. Clark is reported to have written more than 100 songs and recorded more than 35 albums during her career. The Clark Conservatory of Music, which she founded in Detroit in 1979, helped train singers and musicians. She was the matriarch of a gospel music dynasty that has spanned more than seven decades and three generations. In addition to the Clark Sisters, Mattie Moss Clarks gospel singing legacy includes grandchildren Kierra Kiki Sheard and J. Drew Sheard, nephews Bill Moss Jr., J Moss (part of the production team PAJAM) and Lorenzo, Larry and Derrick (of the Clark Brothers). She was inducted posthumously into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1997.

Sister Clark taught our church choir this song in the summer of 1973. It was an unforgettable Midnight Musical!

I love Mattie and the clark sisters. WHo's leading, Twinkie? She slides down her notes like that...

@Tip99 That is true, but not just with her albums. The record companies had more to do with that than the artist themselves. During that time, Savoy would typically provide more detailed credit information than the other labels. That being said, they still made a lot of errors.

One thing about Dr Clark's albums that I don't like, is how they were real slack and lax about giving people credit on the covers. Missing last names, or just not saying anything... I still love her tho!

Love this song. This is the way Dr. Clark seemed to like to arrange choir music! From what I’ve heard on “Now I Belong To Jesus”, “Christ Is Coming Again” and probably others as well.

@ctina323 He indeed satisfies. In Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily and we are complete only in Him.

One of my favorites from this LP. I love the words (lyrics), the classic choir sound, and of course, Twinkie Clark on the organ. Her creativity is awesome, adding something special to the songs, always.
