Soft Head - Lies

Review by Larry Maykin

Soft Head's "Lies" is a mesmerizing album that showcases the band's experimental and boundary-pushing sound. From the opening track "Run" to the closing track "Clearing," the album takes listeners on a journey through a variety of musical styles and moods.

The band's use of unconventional instruments, such as saxophone and bass clarinet, adds a unique texture to the album and creates a sense of unpredictability. Each track is a sonic adventure that keeps listeners engaged and intrigued.

The album's standout tracks include "Rogue Element," which features a haunting saxophone melody and driving rhythm section, and "Deep Breath," which showcases the band's ability to create a dreamy and atmospheric soundscape.

About Soft Head

Jazz-rock band formed in 1978 by ex members of . "Soft" being an obvious reference to their past band, and "Head" being the 4 initial letters of the musicians' first name : Hugh, Elton, Alan, and Dave. In fact, Dave Sheen was in the band only for the inaugural French tour of April 1978 in replacement of drummer Pip Pyle, busy with National Health. A recording of this tour was released on the LP 'Rogue Element' credited to the quartet of Hopper/Dean/Gowen/Sheen instead of the band's name. At the end of the 1978 tour, Pip Pyle returned and the band took back its original name of Soft HeaP (with Pip instead of Dave).
