Love to hear this again, and wow it has the whistle at the key change which modern digital versions have lost for some reason. My elder sister was a great Tommy Steele fan. Great fun. I have never given any thought to what the song was about

I was 11 years old when this was released. Like Ivoriesman I too wonder what was the rationale behind the lyrics. Perhaps it has some connection with the Mau Mau uprising (1952-1960) which seemed to be continually on the radio ("wireless"!) news in those days
Even now the tune and hook line pop into my head from time to time.
Thanks for sharing Ivoriesman,

I don't know of any other UK artist who covered this one but as Guy M's reign was coming (or had come) to an end at this time I doubt if he recorded it.
