Who, The - Odds Sods

gagashead

Review by Dennis Gagomiros

The Who's "Odds Sods" is an album that showcases the band's versatility and creativity. Released in 1974, the album consists of a collection of unreleased tracks, B-sides, and rarities from the band's early years. The album features a wide range of musical styles, from the hard rock of "Long Live Rock" to the acoustic balladry of "Mary Anne with the Shaky Hand."

The album is a testament to the band's ability to experiment with different genres and styles. The track "Postcard" is a perfect example of this, with its mix of country and rockabilly influences. The song "Naked Eye" is an epic rock track that features a driving bassline and soaring vocals from lead singer Roger Daltrey.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "I'm the Face," which was originally released under the name The High Numbers, the band's original name. The song is a catchy and upbeat mod anthem that showcases the band's early influences.

The late Leslie West does play the guitar solos here. This versión was recorded in New York before the Glyn Jones produced sessions.

Buen solo de guitarra de Leslie aunque se acerca al estilo de Pete en esta canción.

respect your opinion, but think your justification is, perhaps, a bit literal. Imho, the acoustic version and this one both have their own appeal. I like this one better though. Largely for 1.40 onwards :)

Sorry to be the odd one out here but this version just isn't as good as the one on Who's Next. It's far too 'busy' musically and its heavy rocking sound doesn't match the languid subject matter of the lyrics. Are we supposed to believe that Pete is rocking out while laying on his back in the newly mown grass and while the babes are sleeping?

I think they made the right decision in turning it into an acoustic number and giving the vocal to Roger. It matches the powerful pathos of the lyric.
