"Carl Fenton" began as a pseudonym for , who was 's arranger and first musical director during the 1920s. subcontracted the "Fenton" sessions to various free-lance musicians, most notably but also . In 1926, Reser's violinist, , began directing the Fenton sessions for . When retired in 1927, Greenberg acquired the rights to the Fenton pseudonym and released records under this name on other labels.
