The Grinning Plowman - Days Of Deformity

Review by Peter Macheli

Days of Deformity, the latest album by Grinning Plowman, is an intriguing and experimental offering that showcases the band's musical prowess and unique sound. The album is a departure from their previous work, with a darker and more brooding tone that captures the listener's attention from the first track.

The album's opening track, "The Uninvited," sets the stage for what's to come, with its haunting melody and eerie vocals. The band's use of electronic elements and unconventional instrumentation adds a layer of complexity to the music, creating a sound that is both haunting and mesmerizing.

Tracks like "Tears of the Wolf" and "Siren's Song" showcase the band's ability to blend different genres seamlessly, with elements of rock, electronic, and even classical music coming together to create a unique and captivating sound.

My dad used to play this album on cassette tape when I was a wee ole baby. I remember the back of it had a picture of the singer, I think, when his head was completely shaved; he was in mid air jumping and flailing his limbs.

I was born and raised in Nashville, and some silly part of me feels proud to say this band is from my hometown. I've always loved this band's music, especially this particular release. I hope to make a cover of one of these songs someday.

Edit: just noticed the bonus track!

Saw them at 328 in Nashville way, way back in the day. It's always been my favorite performance, especially since 328 closed and Plowman didn't last. Still can't remember the other bands that played that night but no one I knew went there for anything other than Grinning Plowman.

They rock. First heard Shake it Off in mid 80's on WUTK (college rock station for University of Tennessee). Have introduced this album to my 19 year old college student, he really likes it.
