His playing is so cantabile ❤️ I don't need to listen to any more Rach 3 than his. It's the most beautiful. He doesn't need to play fast and loud to truly MAKE MUSIC.

Great but the performance taken directly from the Tchaikovsky competition was even more exciting. It have been published by " Testamente"

If only Van had lived for 100 more years he would have achieved the level of Chuck Norris on piano!

This recording was made live at Carnegie Hall by RCA Victor in 1958, shortly after Mr. Cliburn's triumphant return to the United States, in the wake of his winning the 1958 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition. Released by RCA in stereo, it was apparently later licensed by RCA to Mercury in monophonic sound. Either way, the excitement of the occasion is clearly evident, particularly at the end when the audience spontaneously roars its approval at the very top of their lungs.
