Zierler - ESC

Review by Benaiah Soenarto

ESC by Zierler is an impressive album that showcases the band's talent for creating complex and dynamic progressive metal music. The album features a range of musical styles and influences, including symphonic, electronic, and even jazz elements, all woven together seamlessly into a cohesive and captivating musical journey.

One of the standout features of the album is the exceptional musicianship displayed by the band members. The intricate guitar work, powerful drumming, and soaring vocals all combine to create a sound that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant. The use of orchestral and electronic elements also adds an extra dimension to the music, creating a lush and cinematic feel that is both grand and intimate.

One of the highlights of the album is the epic track "Aggrezzor", which clocks in at over 20 minutes and takes the listener on a wild journey through a variety of moods and tempos. The song features guest appearances from several notable musicians, including Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess and Symphony X's Russell Allen, adding even more depth and variety to the already rich musical tapestry.

Zierler is a side project of Bobby Jarzombek (Fates Warning, Sebastian Bach), Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry, Nocturnal Rites), Finn Zierler (Beyond Twilight), Kelly Carpenter (Adagio, Darkology) and Truls Haugen (Circus Maxius): their 2015 debut, ESC, is a rehash of their other projects and Post-Dream Theater Progressive/Metalcore.

I don't understand all the negative comments... for me the lyrics are weird but it's intentional (and funny ! ). Also, harmony and riffs are good as fuck like the other songs of this album. Love Zierler and his works, can't wait the pt.2 !
